"14 juillet".... BASTILLE DAY!!!

Yesterday was our National Day...

14th of july is a day off here in France.

But it was a sunday this year so it doesn't change anything...

It was a beautiful sunny day!

Time a enjoy a ride in our vintage convertible.

It was like vacations even if we stayed at home...

Just taking time to enjoy life!

We went first to a small flea market where I found this lovely 50's purse and it's NOS!

And I chose to wear a quite patriotic outfit...

Blue, white, red...

If in the USA it's quite common to see people wearing those 3 colors on the 4th July...

it's rare in France but I had a few good reasons to wear them...

First, I love those 3 colors, they match perfectly...

Secondly, it's not often that I can wear my patriotic costume jewellery!

Moreover, I bought a new necklace at flea market last week...

A cross of Lorraine in rhinestones from the 40's!!!!
(By the way, Lorraine is the area of France where we live)

These kind of crosses were used during the WWII and was the symbol of free France.

Cannot believe I managed to found such an unique pendant,
I LOVE it!!!

One more reason to wear our flag colors is.... (except the fact that I love my country...)

NEW WEDGES!!!!! I discovered these shoes a few days before french sales so I decided to wait...

And I got them with 50% off on the first day of Sales!!!!

But my outfit was not so patriotic... look at the pattern of my skirt... so BRITISH!

I also asked to Sylvain to wear the same colors than me....

but he didn't feel like wearing them...

so he chose a brownish style!

With early 60's coton pants with attached belt...

a plaid 50's shirt...

and a pair of 2 tones shoes!

My new shoes are from my favorite shoes designer MISS L FIRE...

they are available HERE for 50 euros!

Oh, my skin is really white there... we need more sun!

We had a nice stroll in a small medieval town near home...

It was so hot!!!!

but we could not complain.... we wait so long for summer to come!

We must now wait for true vacations...

soon....

What a nice door!

Did you know that the 14th july is french National Day?
Do you often wear patriotic outfits?

Vintage clothing CONDITION

Here are a few pictures from last month, don't remember when exactly...

But I have to share them to speak about the dress I was wearing that day....

I bought that dress some years ago on Ebay....

but I had never wore it till this day...

You must ask you "Why????"

Look at this gorgeous AZTEK pattern!!!!

I must tell you that I'm really picky when it comes to vintage clothes, I don't want to wear damaged ones, that's why I only buy stuff in Excellent condition.

But each person seems to have another idea about what "Excellent" means for vintage clothes....

For me it means no hole or stains, only some normal wear....

But I have had many problems with my online purchases (Ebay or Etsy) thru the years...

Excellent condition items often arrive with stains or holes despite a listing mentionning "No flaws noted"... Most of the time, I see flaws at first glance when I just take out the item from the package... I cannot believe that sellers didn't notice that!!!

That was what happened with this dress...

It seems perfect on pictures or even if you see me on the streets but it has a few flaws... light yellowing stains in front (why stains are always in the front!!!), one original button was missing and I had to mend a few places...

This dress has slept in a suitcase for a few years because of these flaws, I re-discovered it when I wanted to sell a part of my wardrobe... I thought why not give it a try, afterall flaws are noticable only if you know them or look close...

I think that a lot of sellers (mainly if they are not Professional) try to hide flaws... "you know, it's vintage so holes and stains are just normal..."

I want to know what I buy for the price asked... I can understand that some clothes are harder and harder to find in good condition but I want to decide myself if a flaw is acceptable or not!

Most of the time, people ask me if I make myself my clothes and when I reply that it's all original 60-70 years old clothes then they often cannot believe that they are in such condition... but old doesn't mean bad condition!

I'm perhaps sometimes too picky and have missed some nice items because of a few flaws... but I want to only buy stuff that I will be proud to wear... Condition is for me as important than the style of an item.

Do you often have problems with your Ebay or Etsy vintage purchases?
Would you be able to wear something with major flaws if you like it?

Summer FLEA MARKETS!!!

I'm not dead.... I was just too busy and tired to find time to blog!

Our friends and us organized a big event last week-end: vintage cars, retro style vendors, rockabilly concerts... A little VLV like one of my follower said! That was a big success despite an awfull weather... I'm trying to prepare a post about it for next week! Stay tuned!!!

So we are back to our normal life....

and normal life means for us ... flea markets of course!

It's even better under the sun!!!

So to celebrate the finally coming summer, I inaugurated a brand new 50's dress!!!

I love NOS vintage clothes, tags are always gorgeous.

This dress is labelled "Fruits of the Loom".

Can you believe it was just a house dress???

A little tip...

when your curls are not at the top or when it's hot, wear a vintage nylon net... I love this one with beads.

Handsome husband in black, gray and white...

With the first 50's 2 tones shirt he has ever bought!

We really love details in vintage outfits....

Look for example at the handles of this MIDAS purse...
 harlequin pattern!

Can you see the woven fabric of this dress?

That was so good to finally enjoy the sun...

We feel like we went from winter to summer with no spring...

I cannot believe that I have only wear my new Miss L Fire wedges once...

and it's already SALES in France so I bought 2 new pairs with 50% off, sun must stay with us for me to have a chance to wear all of them!!!!

So we went to 2 huge flea markets this week-end!

and when weather is good, flea markets are the best!

So you are dying to see what we found, aren't you?

 So we bought A LOT!!!!

6 umbrellas (!!!), two 50's hat, a  40's fur cape....

a funny phones toy, a vintage boat Dashboard, many records...

an atomic NOS picture frame, a gorgeous paint of a "parisienne" (the french pin-up)...

a lovely 50's box and many vintage costume jewels (brooches, earrings, necklaces, bracelets)...

some 40's-50's scarves, a carved bakelite bangle and much more!!!

Did you miss us?
